School near Kilkenny border closed amid fears of Covid-19 outbreak
A school near the county Kilkenny border was closed this morning amid fears of a Covid-19 outbreak.
The Presentation Primary School in Carrick-on-Suir contacted parents of students requesting them to come and collect their children as it is suspending classes with immediate effect.
The 300-pupil mixed school initially contacted the parents and guardians of the students in 2nd class yesterday evening to inform them their child was a close contact of a positive covid cases.
In the letter sent out by the school and the Health Service Executive (HSE), parents were informed there is a possibility of a new variant involved with the positive result and asked all students, parents and family members to self-isolate up until March 29.
The Board of Management at the school this morning made the call to shut the facility with immediate effect as Public Health officials carried out a full risk assessment.
The school will be contacting the parents with further instruction later today.
It is understood a creché in Carrick-on-Suir has also closed with immediate effect pending a risk assessment.
