Fears grow for missing Kilkenny man as River Nore search enters fourth day

Fears are growing for a man who has been reported missing as a search on the River Nore enters its fourth day.
Strong currents and poor visibility in the water have severely hampered the search for the man so far.
The Kilkenny Sub-Aqua Club and gardai called off the search for the man close to John’s Bridge late yesterday evening due to fading light. They will resume the search early this morning.
The man has been missing since Monday lunchtime when it was reported he entered the river close to John’s Bridge.
Due to the time that has elapsed since, there are fears the search may have to be widened as the swell in the river has been strong due to the poor weather conditions.
Yesterday the search group used drones to gain elevation to see if they could spot anything in the water. Sonar equipment was also used to try and locate the man, but both turned up nothing. Conditions were also too bad to employ divers to assist the search.
It is hoped the weather will favour the search teams today and that dives may be possible as there is a small window of settled weather expected before Storm Denis kicks-in around on Friday morning.
