Sign of the times: More than one-in-10 Kilkenny premises now lying vacant

Almost 13% of Kilkenny’s commercial premises are currently vacant, a new survey reveals.
The rate has increased by almost 1% from 2018, according to the latest GeoView Commercial Vacancy Rates Report published by GeoDirectory.
Callan has the highest commercial vacancy rate in the county at 22.3%. Kilkenny city has the lowest vacancy rate at 14.7%
The overall commercial vacancy in the county is 12.7%.
On a national level, the report found that the commercial vacancy rate increased in all four provinces in 2019. The national commercial vacancy rate stood at 13.3% in Q4 2019, 0.1% higher than the same period in 2018.
In total, 16 counties recorded increases in their commercial vacancy rate. Just six counties recorded a decrease.
Sligo (18.9%) has the highest commercial vacancy rate.
Dublin recorded a vacancy rate of 10%.
