Significant rise in number of new homes under construction in Kilkenny

There was a sharp rise in the number of new homes under construction in Kilkenny city and county in September, new figures reveal.

The Department of Housing last night confirmed the number of house commencements in Kilkenny rose to 147 in September, bringing the total number for the year to 698.

With three months still to go, this year’s figures have already surpassed the 502 new homes commenced in 2023, and the 521 figure recorded in 2022.

Overall, the Department of Housing said there were 11,385 homes across the country commenced in September, brining the overall figure for the year to date to 49,007.

The figures come as the Government comes under increasing pressure to significantly scale up new home builds in the face of an unprecedented housing shortage.
