Smokie escapes the bandit: Beloved family pet reunited with Kilkenny family – four months after she was stolen
A beloved pet who was stolen near her county Kilkenny home four months ago has finally been reunited with her delighted owners.
Gardai launched a public appeal after ‘Smokie’ was taken last April near her home in Castlecomer.
It has now emerged she was purchased by an unsuspecting person who had no knowledge the family pet had been stolen.
A local Garda spokesperson confirmed: “Smokie, a gorgeous family pet was taken last April and recovered tonight by Gardai from Castlecomer and Kilkenny. We featured an appeal for Smokie’s return last April.
“The full story is unravelling and it appears that Smokie was purchased by another person without knowledge of the fact that she had been taken. This person on becoming aware of Smokie’s true identity did his civic duty and surrendered her.”
Gardai confirmed Smokie is now safe at home after being reunited with her family.
They have edurged people to “please, please be vigilant if purchasing any pet”.
