Solar farm planned for county Kilkenny given more time to complete development
Plans to build a second solar energy farm outside a county Kilkenny village are still on track after application seeking more time to complete the development has been approved.
In 2016 Kilkenny County Council granted Elgin Energy Services Ltd permission to develop a 4MW solar farm on lands at Grange Lower in Goresbridge.
However, this planning period was due to expire later this year and the developers applied to have the planning permission extended for a period of five years.
The local authority has approved the application for the 28 acre solar farm which will comprise of numerous photovoltaic panels on ground mounted frames, four single storey inverter/transformer stations and a single storey ESB MV substation, as well as security fencing, CCTV, and all associated ancillary development works.
A similar solar energy farm development on 28 acres of neighbouring land by a company called Power Capital Renewable Energy was also granted an extension of its planning permission for five years recently.
Both solar farms are to be developed on lands off the R702 road between Goresbridge and Gowran.
