COVID-19: South East careers fair with 700 jobs on offer and salaries of €65k postponed

Organisers of a careers fair which had 700 jobs on offer in Kilkenny and the South East has been postponed the event due to Coronavirus.

The average salary of the positions on offer was €65,000 from the 40 local companies looking to fill positions.

The jobs exhibition, ‘Back For The Future 2020’ was due to be held in the Tower Hotel this Sunday, March 15 but due to the overwhelming interest, which would have seen up to 2,000 people attend, organisers this morning took the decision to call it off.

Speaking to KilkennyNow.ie, organiser and CEO of Crystal Valley Tech Elaine Fennelly (pictured below) said it was disappointing to have to call off the event after all the interest from employers and job-seekers, but she stressed there was no other option.

“It’s only a minor setback for us. Obviously, we cannot say when we will reschedule the fair for, but that is just the manner of things at the moment.

“We had to make the decision. So far over 1,300 people have signed up to attend the fair, we expected more by Sunday and then obviously there would be walk-ins off the street. That could be 2,000 – 2,500 people.

“Onwards and upwards though, the message is out there of what we have on offer in the region, so we will look to do something again when we can,” Elaine concluded.

More than 40 companies were due to participate with a wide range of jobs on offer including IT professionals, Customer Care and Sales, Engineering, Technical, Financial, Administration, Network Planners, Technicians, HR, Accounting, Facilities and Production, Contact Centres, and Customer Care.
