STORM CIARA AFTERMATH: Homes in Kilkenny among thousands without power
ESB crews are battling to restore power to a number of homes in county Kilkenny after Storm Ciara battered the country early this morning.
A Status Orange wind warning t expired an noon, but a Yellow rain alert remains in place throughout the country until 3pm.
Ten thousand homes and businesses were left without power, with the south of the country being worst affected. In south Kilkenny, some 153 households in the Inistioge-Rosbercon area are still without electricity.
Met Éireann warned today will be extremely windy or stormy with heavy thundery rain giving way to sunny spells and frequent squally showers, some of which will be of hail and thunder.
The winds will be at their strongest in the morning and early afternoon with some severe and damaging gusts. The stormy conditions will result in a significant risk of flooding in coastal areas, especially along western and northwestern coasts. Highs of nine to 12 degress are expected.
Aer Lingus is advising all guests travelling tomorrow to check the status of their flight before departing for the airport, as there may be some flight delays and cancellations due to Storm Ciara.
Irish Ferries is warning passengers there may be some disruption to sailings over the coming days and advised them to check with its updates online or by telephone ahead of travelling.
