South East’s first university could be signed off by April: Minister

The Government expects an application to create the long-awaited Technological University of the South East(TUSE) will be with them by next April.
The announcement was made this week by Further and Higher Education Minister Simon Harris. The TUSE project would see Waterford Institute of Technology and Institute of Technology, Carlow merging, creating a new educational establishment that could cater for a combined student body of 18,500 and around 1,800 staff.
Minister Harris said: “In relation to the Technological University of the South East, there is a project team in place on that.
“I updated government last week on the status of all Technological Universities and also took a debate on the Seanad last week. As of now they are expected to be in a position to lodge an application with me in April of next year,” the minister added.
