Thief steals bike belonging to Kilkenny nurse working on Covid-19 frontline

A bike, which is the only mode of transport for one of our essential frontline healthcare workers, was stolen over the weekend from a Kilkenny city centre street.

The very recognisable bike – bright pink with a basket on the front of it – was parked up on Dean Street on Good Friday, April 10.

When the nurse who owned the bike went to get it on Saturday morning it was gone.

KilkennyNow.ie has learned the nurse works in the Accident and Emergency Department at St Luke’s General Hopsital and was her only mode of transport for getting to and from work.

Gardai recovered the bike, which was found abandoned on the Castlecomer Road in the city on Sunday afternoon, but are still hunting for the thief who stole it.

Anyone who may have seen a person cycling a distinctive pink bike with a basket over the weekend is asked to contact Kilkenny Gardai on 056 777 5000.
