UPDATE: Man (46) in critical condition after early morning assault in Kilkenny
A man in his 30’s remains in custody this afternoon in relation to a violent assault that occurred in Kilkenny city in the early hours of this morning.
A 46 year old man is understood to be fighting for his life in St Luke’s General hospital after sustaining serious head injuries following the assault at Johns Green, close to MacDonagh Junction in the early hours of this morning.
A woman who had been arrested in connection with the incident has been released from Garda custody.
Gas Works Lane remains cordoned off this lunchtime as gardai continue to perform a forensic and technical examination of the scene.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information, or anyone who was driving in the MacDonagh Junction/High Hayes Terrace/Johns Green area of the city between 3am and 6am and may have dashcam footage, to contact Kilkenny Garda Station on 056 777 5000.
