‘Virtual relay’ at Kilkenny GAA club raises €20,000 for brave local woman battling cancer for second time

Big-hearted community volunteers have raised almost €20,000 for a local cancer sufferer and her family.

St Martin’s GAA club in Muckalee has joined fundraising forces with Jim Bolger’s Hurling for Cancer charity and the Carlow-Kilkenny Home Care team to create a 24-hour “virtual relay” event.

The relay will take place at St Martin’s grounds on Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, June 28.

One of the organisers, Patrick O’Flynn, said participants will have the option of walking, running or cycling depending on the length of the leg of the relay. Organisers also stress “all rules related to Covid 19 will be adhered to”.

So far the GoFundMe campaign has raised almost €20,o00 for Veronica Clancy, who is battling cancer for the second time, and her family. Anyone wishing to make a donation can log on to: https://www.gofundme.com/f/Ronnies-Relay
