WARNING: Parts of Ferrybank under water, motorists urged to drive with caution

These were the scenes in Ferrybank this evening as heavy rain resulted in dangerously high water levels on the dual carriageway.

Motorists are being urged to drive with caution as a Status Yellow rain warning remains in place for Munster and Leinster until 6am tomorrow.

A Yellow thunder warning is also in place for Waterord, Kilkenny, Carlow Wexford and Wicklow until 9pm, with lightning activity and more heavy rainfall forecast for tonight.

Intense and potentially thundery downpours are forecast for the rest of the evening and overnight, which has already resulted in localised flooding.
