Woman has lucky escape after car overturns on dangerous section of Kilkenny road

A Kilkenny woman had a lucky escape when her car crashed into a ditch and overturned after it skidded on an oil patch on the road.

The accident occurred on the R700 Thomastown to Inistioge road at around 1.30pm today.

A local Garda source said the woman, who is from the area, was driving home when her car skidded on an oil patch and veered out of control.

The vehicle crashed into the side of a dangerous bend on the road before overturning.

Fortunately the woman did not suffer any serious injuries and was able to call a neighbour who then came to her aid.

Gardai in Thomastown have urged motorists in the area to be drive carefully as attempts are made to tow the upturned vehicle from the scene.
