Young Kilkenny doctor starts work in midst of pandemic as granny tests positive for virus

A young Kilkenny-based doctor who began his placement in the city as the pandemic hit features in a special new documentary which airs tonight.

The TG4 documentary, Saol Faoi Ghlas, captures an unprecedented time in our history as it explores the challenges of living under lockdown.

A TG4 spokesperson said: “Despite the personal hardship suffered by those featured in this documentary, this is ultimately a story of hope that reminds us of our resilience and strength as individuals and as communities.”

Among the featured personal stories is recently qualified doctor Lorcán Ó Maoileannaigh (pictured below), who recently began his placement at a Kilkenny hospital. Lorcán’s fears about starting his career during this time are compounded by the fact that his grandmother was recently diagnosed with Covid-19 and he won’t see her for the coming months.

Saol Faoi Ghlas airs tonight at 9.30pm on TG4 .
