Young man treated at St Luke’s Hospital after brutal assault in Kilkenny city-centre
A YOUNG man was taken to St Luke’s Hospital after he was brutally assaulted in an unprovoked attack in Kilkenny city-centre over the Bank Holiday weekend.
The assault occurred on John Street at around 2.15am on Sunday.
Gardai came across the young man, who is in his early 20s, lying on the ground after he was attacked.
The victim, who is from Carlow, had no recollection of what happened and had no memory of being involved in an argument with anyone prior to the assault. It is believed he was struck from behind in an unprovoked attack.
The young man was taken to St Luke’s General Hospital where he was treated for facial injuries, including swelling to the face and cuts on his nose.
Gardai have urged any potential eyewitnesses to come forward and assist their investigation. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Kilkenny Garda Station on 056 777 5000.
