BLACKOUT: 1,000 Kilkenny homes without power since morning

By COLIN BARTLEY

OVER 1,000 houses in County Kilkenny were left without electricity today.

At 8.30 am this morning the power went out in Urlingford and it had not been restored to the 1,ooo homes affected by lunchtime.

The outage caused widespread disruption and even the library in Urlingford announced on twitter that it was forced to close its doors.

Technicians for the ESB have been sent to Glengoole, near Urlingford, where the fault has been detected.

A spokesperson for ESB networks told KilkennyNow.ie: “We are currently working to repair a fault affecting the area and will restore power as quickly as possible.”

The electricity provider could not give a definite time when power would be restored to the area.

***The power was restored shortly after 2 pm.***
