REVEALED: The Kilkenny construction companies awarded new industry quality mark

A NEW national construction industry quality award has been established to help Kilkenny people who are building or renovating to find a builder they can trust.

And a total of 14 local contractors have qualified for the Construction Industry Register of Ireland certificate (CIRI), the new competence in construction quality mark.

Builders on the CIRI register passed rigorous testing of their financial, administrative and construction competence and been approved by an independent board of experts, some nominated by the Government.

The CIRI quality mark promotes compliance in the construction industry and covers the four pillars of Continuous Practice Development (CPD) – building regulations, health and safety, technology and innovation, and business management. It covers over 40 construction categories including plastering, plumbing, stonework, roofing, demolition, carpentry, scaffolding, fire safety, and more.

CIRI chair Aidan O’Connor said it was important to have Government backing for the initiative: “The Government, in recognising the role CIRI is playing in improving standards, has committed to supporting its wider adoption throughout the industry.

“Not only does CIRI check the basic requirements regarding insurance, health and safety, and Financials, it also looks for project references, qualifications, and experience of key personnel.”

CIRI spokesperson Lorraine Hosty said: “From the builder’s perspective the CIRI mark is useful when trying to secure work as CIRI is now gaining momentum with public and private sector clients and is often been sought as a competency standard during the procurement process.”
