Hundreds of Kilkenny people to lose medical card benefits this year
MEDICAL card holders in Kilkenny have been warned they could lose the benefit before the end of the year due to falling unemployment.
Up to 27,000 people in Kilkenny city and county are currently eligible for medical cards, according to figures released by the Department of Health this week.
However, a new report by the department estimates up to 32,000 people nationally could lose the medical card this year. Based on population, this would mean over 500 people in Kilkenny would their medical cards.
More than 1.5 million people in Ireland are currently covered by the medical card scheme. However, the plummeting rate of unemployment means less people are eligible for the medical card.
