BREAKING: 16-year-old brutally assaulted by group outside city-centre takeaway

A 16-YEAR-OLD boy was assaulted in an unprovoked attack outside a takeaway in the city-centre.

Kilkenny gardai are looking for a group of at least four youths responsible for the cowardly attack, which occurred outside a fast-food restaurant on John Street at 12.05am last Wednesday.

The teenage victim was initially singled out for no apparent reason by one individual. After assaulting the 16-year-old, the attacker was then joined by up to three to four others who joined in the attack as the terrified victim lay crouched on the ground.

The 16-year-old, who is from Carrick-on-Suir, suffered facial cuts, a black eye and minor head injuries in the attack.

Kilkenny gardai are hunting for those involved in the assault. They are trawling through CCTV footage from the area in a bid to identify the attackers.

They have appealed to anyone with information about the incident or who may have witnessed the assault to contact Kilkenny Garda Station on 056 777 5000.
