‘Giving light and hope’ – volunteers urged to join charity walk in Kilkenny city
VOLUNTEERS are being urged to take part in a special charity walk to raise awareness of suicide and mental health issues which gets underway in Kilkenny tomorrow.
The ‘Giving Light & Hope Walk’ is being organised by the local Teac Tom charity, which is part of the Thomas Hayes Trust CLG.
The walk will take place in Kilkenny tomorrow. A separate similar event gets underway in neighbouring Laois on Sunday.
Teac Tom founder Angela Hayes (pictured) said: “We are hoping to bring the whole community of the south east together in a bid to raise awareness around the issue of suicide and most importantly that there is help out there for anyone of any age suffering with poor mental health.
“The help we provide would not be possible without the support from the community, so please join us to spread light and hope to those suffering in silence.”
Angela added: “Our 2019 walk is once again being promoted by Ryan Tubridy and across all social media platforms. We would love if as many clubs wore their club colours to show support for this vital community service.”
Teac Tom provides free and immediate counselling, education and drop-in support to people who suffer from mental health problems or suicide bereavement. The charity has provided free support to over 500 individuals and families so far this year.
