€16 million transformation of Kilkenny school edges closer

A €16 MILLION project that will completely transform a Kilkenny secondary school is nearing the planning stage.
Presentation Secondary School in Loughboy is preparing to lodge plans which would more than double the size of the school.
The design of the new school is nearing completion and it is expected an application for planning permission will be lodged in January. If planning is approved it is hoped the new school will be completed by 2022.
The school currently caters for 784 pupils.
The current school building will be completely redesigned and modernised as part of the plan and the school will increase in size from 5,240 sq/mts from 2,500 sq/mts. The additional space will allow the school increase the number of subjects it offers.
The plans for the new building will see the construction of state-of-the-art science, technology, engineering and maths laboratories. A state-of-the-art physical education facility will also be built, featuring a hall, changing suites, a fitness suite and a hard court play area, as well as a state-of-the-art gym and a full playing pitch.
Students with learning difficulties will also be catered for through a Special Educational Needs Suite which will have a central activities space, two classes with withdrawal rooms, a multi-sensory room, a para-educational room and a practical activity room.
