Bungling burglars bail-out after waking Kilkenny publican during botched break-in

Burglars who broke into a popular county Kilkenny pub fled empty-handed after being rumbled by the bar owner.

A number of men forced their way into a bar on the Square in Castlecomer around 3am on Tuesday.

The bar owner was woken by a loud bang downstairs, he then heard voices coming from the private accommodation attached to the pub.

He started shouting to let the burglars know he heard them. Upon hearing the owner, the men fled.

The owner rushed to a window overlooking the Square and saw a number of men in a dark coloured saloon car fleeing the scene in the direction of Kilkenny.

Nothing was taken during the burglary.

Anyone with information, or who may have seen anything suspicious in the area at that time, is asked to contact the Castlecomer Garda station on 056 444 0650.
