€5 million to make Kilkenny town by-pass safer for pedestrians
More than €5 million has been provided to Kilkenny County Council for a project to make a busy Kilkenny road much safer for pedestrians.
The N76 Callan road will see improvements to the pavement on sections of the road between Callan town and Brownstown.
The money has been allocated as part of the Transport Infrastructure Ireland programme of works for 2020. Exactly €11,426, 503 has been set aside for road projects in county Kilkenny.
Among these projects is the N24 flyover at Piltown which will come as a great relief to locals. That stretch has been dubbed the ‘road of death’ due to the number of serious accidents that have occurred since it was opened to the public over 20 years ago.
Other projects set to benefit are N25 Waterford to Glenmore scheme which will join with the New Ross bypass scheduled to open in Q1 2020 – €920,000 has been set aside for this.
A further €1 million has been earmarked for more work on the N24 Carrick-on-Suir to Waterford Road. The realignment of the N77 from Ballyragget to the Ballynaslee is to receive €250,000 in funding.
The remaining money is being allocated to various maintenance projects on Kilkenny’s roads.
