US artist Gypsy Ray who was drawn to the charms of Kilkenny, passes away
A highly regarded and gifted artist, who made Kilkenny her home, has sadly passed away.
Gypsy (Patricia) Ray, originally from Illinois in the USA, has been living in Johnstown since 2000. She quickly became extremely well-known within the arts and creative industry for her perceptive eye both as a photographer and sketcher, renowned for her visual art.
Gypsy also lectured while living in Ireland in the Ormond College of Art and the Kilkenny Women’s Art Programme.
Her work has been exhibited both locally and abroad and was often exhibited in galleries such as the Butler Gallery locally and Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin.
Gypsy Ray died peacefully at her home in Tullabrin, Johnswell on Saturday, March 7 and is survived by her husband Alan, by her sisters Susan and Mary.
She will repose in Johnston’s Funeral Home, John’s Green, Kilkenny on Wednesday, March 11, from 5pm to 7pm. A celebration of Gypsy’s life will then take place in Castalia Hall, Ballytobin, Callan on Thursday at 11am followed by cremation at 4pm in the Island Crematorium, Ringaskiddy, county Cork.
