Scenes of chaos as Garda car rammed during chase drama in Waterford
A rogue driver rammed a Garda car during a chase drama amid chaotic scenes that unfolded across Waterford city and Tramore yesterday.
A 22-year-old male was arrested after the incident, which resulted in the Garda car being put out of commission.
A local Garda spokesperson said officers spotted the suspect at The Folly in the city yesterday and ordered him to stop.
However, the driver refused and instead took off at high speed in the direction of Tramore. When he reached the seaside town, with gardai in pursuit, he proceeded to drive along the wrong side of the roundabout at the Promenade.
Gardai attempted to block the vehicle, but the driver then rammed the squad car along the passenger side before driving off again.
Gardai set up a number of roadblocks in Tramore and Waterford but the driver made no attempt to stop at any of them.
Eventually, after he continued driving in a dangerous and reckless manner, the car eventually came to a stop as a result of the damage it had inflicted.
The 22-year-old was arrested and taken to Waterford Garda Station for questioning.
Gardai have urged any eyewitness or motorists with dashcam footage to contact Waterford Garda Station on 051 305 300.
