Landmark Kilkenny hotel unveils ambitious plans to revamp building

A Kilkenny hotel which recently received permission to increase its bedroom count has unveiled ambitious plans to revamp the landmark buliding in the city-centre.

The Rivercourt Hotel on the junction of Bridge Street and John Street, which is owned by the Neville Hotel Group, is seeking permission to build a four-storey extension to the existing building.

Under the plans received by Kilkenny County Council this week, the owners are seeking to demolish a two-storey structure at the rear of the hotel and replace it with a two to four-storey extension, which will include external access steps, toilets, a conservatory/breakout space, a new internal access stairs and lift, and an external ramped disabled access.

The plans also seek a change of layout to the current structure, which includes nine bedrooms, two suites, the conference and breakout space, the gymnasium, holding kitchen and storage spaces to allow for the revamp.

The Neville Hotel Group is also seeking to erect a covered canopy linking the proposed extension to the existing Rivercourt Hotel, while adding mounted signage to the building on John Street.

Under the plans, the entrance to the hotel’s car-park would be widened and three new pedestrian entrances would be created.

In January Kilkenny County Council approved plans by the Rivercourt Hotel to create 19 new bedrooms, increasing its capacity to more than 120 guest rooms.
