Clare star Tony Kelly suspended for Sunday’s showdown with Cats
CLARE will be without star player Tony Kelly for the National League clash against Brian Cody’s Cats in Ennis on Sunday.
The 2013 Hurler of the Year has received a one-match ban after he was sent off early in the second half in Clare’s defeat against Tipperary last Saturday.
The decision was subsequently criticised by Sunday Game pundits Anthony Daly and Derek McGrath.
Tipperary manager Liam Sheedy agreed with his Clare counterpart Donal Maloney, arguing that the clash was “absolutely accidental”.
However, the decision of referee Colm Lyons has been upheld by the CHC and Clare will now be without Kelly for the Kilkenny game.
