WEEKEND WEATHER: Warm and sunny days ahead for Kilkenny
Finally, it appears our summer may be about to kick into gear. After a miserable May, Met Éireann has forecast a dry and sunny weekend, with temperatures gradually rising over the coming days.
The national forecaster said today remain “generally cloudy over the eastern half of the country” with patchy light rain or drizzle at times. But it added: “It will be dry further west with sunny spells. Rain and drizzle in the east will gradually ease through the evening. Highest temperatures of 13 to 15 degrees generally but reaching 15 to 17 degrees in the best of the sunshine over Munster and Connacht, in a light northerly or variable breeze.”
Tomorrow will also be mostly cloudy to start with, some mist patches and a little drizzle in parts of the west and the northeast coast. Met Éireann aded: “Cloud will break up during the day with sunny spells developing and will become dry, apart from the odd shower. Warmer than recent days, with highest temperatures of 16 to 19 or 20 degrees, holding slightly cooler along some coasts. Mostly light southerly or variable breezes, increasing moderate along Atlantic coasts.”
Sunday will be mostly dry and warm with sunny spells, with Kilkenny and the south east escaping duller periods forecast for western coastal areas, with highest temperatures of 16 to 21 degrees.
Met Eireann said Monday will be mostly cloudy, with some rain at times and temperatures around the mid-teens. But in good news for this corner of the country, the forecaster added: “Staying largely dry in the southeast where it will be warmer at 18 or 19 degrees and a few brighter spells may occur.”
Current indications suggest the first half of next week will be warm with a mix of cloud and sunny spells, although some showery rain is forecast in parts.
