Class news: Kilkenny’s biggest school gets green light for complete makeover

Kilkenny’s biggest school has been given the green light for a massive new makeover.

St Canice’s School on the Granges Road is the largest school in the county, catering for more than 650 pupils and serves the oldest parish in the city.

Now the school has been granted planning permission for a huge redevelopment, which will see the phased demolition of the existing building and outbuildings.

These will make way for the contructions of a new two-storey, 24-classroom school with a total floor area of 4,334 sq/m.

St Canice’s was established when three local schools, St Canice’s Infants’ School, St Canice’s Boys’ School and The Loreto National School amalgated in 1982.
