Day of drama as Dublin shoplifters arrested after ‘hit-and-run’ in Kilkenny city
TWO Dublin shoplifters who evaded capture after they targeted a sportswear shop in Kilkenny were later arrested when they were pursued by gardai following a separate hit-and-run incident.
The pair, who are aged 21 and 18, were first spotted acting suspiciously in the sportswear store on High Street yesterday morning.
A local Garda source said the suspects were chased down the High Street after stealing a number of items from the shop, but they managed to get away.
However, the thieves’ luck ran out after they later rear-ended a vehicle near the Woodies store at the Smithlands Centre just before 4pm.
The pair fled the scene, but they were later arrested when gardai stopped them at a roundabout in Cloghristick, Milford, Co Carlow, at 4.35pm.
The arresting officers discovered the stolen sportswear in their possession.
The suspects were arrested and taken into custody. They have both been charged with handling stolen property and are due to appear before court.
