A breakfast fit for champions! Ballyhale’s hurling heroes tuck into Billy’s ‘Full Irish’
IT was a breakfast fit for champions!
Ballyhale’s hurling heroes – and what seemed like half the parish – crammed into Billy’s Tearooms & Shop this morning for a hearty breakfast in the aftermath of the Shamrocks’ emphatic victory in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Club Final at Croke Park yesterday.
The staff and volunteers at the non-profit cooperative, which recently featured on RTÉ’s Nationwide, had their hands full as they dished out the venue’s much-loved ‘Full Irish’ to the hungry players, families and supporters.
Billy’s Tearooms & Shop said on social media: “This morning we welcomed our All Ireland Champions for breakfast. The players, supporters and families arrived in at different times to enjoy our ‘Full Irish’ breakfast. A great morning as we all relived and chatted about yesterday’s match.
“It was great to see so many of our regulars in attendance also and thanks to all our other guests who came to offer congratulations.
“Many thanks to all our staff and volunteers who worked hard from opening to closing. While it was busy, it was great to chat, laugh and compare stories and tales on yesterday.”
The diners certainly had plenty to digest. Yesterday’s win was Ballyhale’s seventh time to go all the way in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Club Championship, an incredible achievement for the South Kilkenny village. Their victory also marks an incredible first year as coach for 10-times inter-county All-Ireland winner Henry Shefflin.
In the end, Ballyhale utterly outclassed Galway champions St Thomas, winning by a margin of 17 points. But the result was never really in doubt after Colin Fennelly scored the first of his two goals after just six minutes.
