Stop the Clot: Major awareness campaign around one of Kilkenny’s biggest killers rolls into town

By COLIN BARTLEY

ONE in four people in Kilkenny die from causes related to blood clots.

They are also reported to be the number one cause of preventable death in hospitals, ahead of infection and pneumonia.

Today, Thrombosis Ireland and the Ireland East Hospital Group (IEHG) brings it’s the Big Red Bus to Kilkenny in an effort to spread the word on how to Stop the Clot! The roadshow is designed to create community awareness on the danger of blood clots.

Venous Thromboembolism Disease, or VTE, claims more lives than breast cancer, prostate cancer, and motor vehicle accidents together.

VTE is a blood clot that forms in the veins and can travel in the circulation, lodging in the lungs and it can be fatal.

The Big Red Bus will be parked in the city centre this morning, before moving to St Luke’s General Hospital this afternoon.
