Castlecomer’s first ever Rose is crowned

CASTLECOMER’S first ever Rose was crowned at a packed event in the county Kilkenny town last night.

It was a tough call for the judges, but Niamh Balkin – sponsored by the Castlecomer Discovery Park – eventually won through.

Niamh will now go on to represent Castlecomer at the Kilkenny Rose selection event at the Ormonde Hotel in the city next month.

The judges of last night’s event, which took place at Shortall’s Bar & Lounge, were the current Carlow Rose Shauna Ray Lucey and Alan Grincell, International Rose Of Tralee escort.

MC for the night, Michael Owens, grilled the girls under the glare of the spotlight on stage in front of their family and friends.

The room was beautifully decorated by Marion Fitzpatrick from Rocamaer Flowers.

Organiser Breda Heary said she was “thrilled” at the success of the event.

Breda told KilkennyNow.ie: “The judges had a very tough job choosing a winner from the eight beautiful entrants, but in the end there could only be one winner.

“We wish to congratulate Niamh and all of the girls for taking part in what has been a fantastic event for the town over the past few weeks.”

All proceeds from the event will go towards the local boys’ national school.

The Castlecomer Roses celebrated today when they were paraded through the town in vintage cars alongside their Rose Buds (pictured above) and mini escorts.
