County Kilkenny school lodges plans to build special needs unit
A county Kilkenny primary school is looking to build an extension which will allow it to cater for all students within that area.
The Board of Management of Scoil Mhuire gan Smál in Graiguenamanagh has applied to Kilkenny County Council for permission to build an extension which will include a special needs unit.
The mixed-gender school currently caters for more than 160 students, with nearly two times as many girls as boys.
The proposed extension to the school on Convent Road would see the creation of a single-storey extension providing a central activities area and play area, as well as the special needs centre.
A decision on the application is expected in mid-March.
