Drug driver busted as gardai set up checkpoints across Kilkenny

A motorist was arrested after he tested positive for cannabis when he was stopped at a Garda checkpoint in Kilkenny last night.

The arrest comes as gardai across Kilkenny and Carlow set up several checkpoints across both counties over the busy Bank Holiday weekend.

Gardai confirmed the drug driver is due to appear in court.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí in Carlow and Kilkenny and Thomastown will be conducting numerous checkpoints over the Bank holiday weekend. Please reduce your speed, wear your seat belt, never hold your mobile phone while driving and never drive while under the influence of an intoxicant. “
