ELECTION 2020: Count 4 – McGuinness edges towards seat, Alan Hayes is eliminated
Just one TD has still been elected to represent Carlow-Kilkenny in the 33rd Dáil after the fourth count in the local General Election 2020 poll.
Traditional poll topper John McGuinness, now on 11,622 votes, is just a whisker short of the 12,274 quota to confirm his re-election to Dáil Éireann.
Independent candidiate Alan Hayes, a former President of UCC Students’ Union who is heavily involved in the local Teac Tom charity founded by his mother Angela, was eliminated in the fourth count, but the 23-year-old can feel very proud of the impressive 3,710 votes he recieved in his first election outing.
These votes will now be distributed among the remaining candidates.
The fifth count is now underway.
