Father of well-known GAA star investigated over alleged sex attack, young woman treated at Waterford hospital
A young woman was treated at University Hospital Waterford (UHW) this week after she was allegedly seriously sexually assaulted by the father of a well-known GAA star.
It is alleged the attack on the woman, who is in her 20s, took place at a gathering at a house in a town in the South East in the early hours of Monday morning.
A forensic examination of the house was subsequently carried out by Garda technical experts.
Gardai are said to be treating the allegations extremely seriously.
They were alerted to the incident when the young woman reported the matter at her local Garda station.
She was then brought to the sexual assault treatment unit at UHW.
So far there has been no arrests in the case.
It is understood the alleged victim and the suspect, who is in his 50s, are well known to each other.
The well-known GAA star was not present when the alleged assault took place.
Gardai investigations are continuing.
