Fifth generation Kilkenny bar is ‘Pub of the Year’

A local family-run bar has been crowned Irish Pub of the Year 2024.

Malzards Pub in Stoneyford was honoured as national champion from a field of 70 regional winners at a gala awards ceremony in The Round Room at The Mansion House in Dublin.

This year’s Irish Pub Awards – which had more than 1,000 entries from across the country – are jointly presented by the Vintners Federation of Ireland (VFI) and The Licenced Vintners Association (LVA).

Malzards is a fifth-generation, family-run business situated in heart of Stoneyford.

While maintaining all the charm of a traditional Irish pub, Malzards has also become a model of the ‘Pub as a Community Hub’ by expanding its offerings to serve both local customers and visiting tourists.

The owners have created experiences that have gained recognition in both international and domestic markets.

Their unique offerings include ‘The Hurling Experience’, ‘Gigs in the Garden’, glamping pods, motorhome accommodations, and a newly added Airbnb unit this year.
