Gardai out in force on Kilkenny roads over Bank Holiday weekend
Kilkenny gardai have warned motorists they will be out of force policing our roads over the Bank Holiday weekend.
It comes as the Road Safety Authority urged drivers to be extra careful over the coming days, pointing out that long weekends are particularly dangerous as more people are on the roads.
The warnings have an extra resonance after figures published yesterday revealed there has been a worrying 106% increase in the number of arrests for drugs and drink driving for the first months of 2020 compared to the same period last year.
Kilkenny-Carlow Roads Policing Inspector Anthony Farrell told KCLR: “This August Bank Holiday Weekend, An Garda Siochana will again be out in force focusing efforts on drugs and/or drink driving” he said.
“Every day, An Garda Siochana try to keep people safe on our roads, consuming drink or drugs and getting into a vehicle not one endangers your life, but is nothing short of reckless in the endangerment of the lives of others.”
