Gardai set up speed checks on county Kilkenny road upgrade
Local motorists are being made aware they could be hit with fines and penalty points if caught speeding on a section of road currently under construction in county Kilkenny.
Kilkenny gardai are asking drivers to pay more attention at the roadworks on the N76 Kilkenny to Callan road, as a temporary 50km speed limit is in place and the Roads Policing Unit are conduction speed checks.
A local garda spokesperson said that the unit has already issued speeding fines and penalty points.
“Roads Policing Unit are conducting speed checks in the 50kph Special Road Works Zone to protect workers and motorists,” the spokesperson said.
Gardai have urged caution on that stretch of road as they say the “road surface is unfinished and slippery.
“Fines and three penalty points have already been issued over the last two days,” they said.
Gardai would like to remind motorists the speed checks will remain in place for the next three weeks, while the road works are completed.
“Thank you for your patience, please allow extra time for travel between Callan and Kilkenny,” the Garda spokesperson concluded.
