Gardai urge car owners to be vigilant following spate of break-ins in city

GARDAI have urged shoppers to keep their cars locked and parked in secure well-lit spaces in the countdown to Christmas following a spate of break-ins in the city.

Local gardai confirmed seven vehicles were broken into last weekend, with “small amounts of property stolen”.

Gardai warned: “Please ensure your vehicle is properly secured and locked. Do not leave valuables or any items on display which will attract the opportunist thief. Where possible park off road and in well-lit areas.”

In another incident an elderly pensioner’s car was stolen by a thief who had earlier offered to help with his shopping. The incident occurred in the Market Place car park on Saturday night.
