Housing charity plans to convert landmark Kilkenny building into independent living centre

A Kilkenny agency that supports adults with intellectual disabilities and autism is seeking to convert an iconic house in Kells into an independent living centre.

SOS Kilkenny Housing Association CLG has applied to Kilkenny County Council to to convert the property known as ‘The Round House’ into a 4-bedroom dwelling for independent living.

SOS Kilkenny has been operating for over 40 years and works to develop the talents and interests of people with autism and disabilities, to build and maintain meaningful relationships and to create opportunities in further education and employment.

It has applied for a change the use for ‘The Round House’ and is looking to make modifications on the building. If approved, SOS will create three one-bedroom semi-independent living units within the building. Another one-bed unit will be built by modifying the existing garage.

SOS Kilkenny currently has more than 20 community houses in various locations around Kilkenny city and county.
