Ice, ice, maybe: Met Éireann warns Kilkenny motorists to expect ‘sharp frost’
MOTORISTS have been urged to beware of icy roads this weekend as temperatures plummet again with sleet and hail also forecast over the weekend.
Today will be cloudy in Kilkenny and throughout most of Leinster with a few periods of light rain and drizzle, but overall it will be warm and dry with temperatures of between 9 to 11 degrees.
However, the national forecaster warned the bitterly cold weather we experienced earlier in the week will return this weekend, along with a “sharp frost”.
Met Eireann said: “Saturday night is looking windy and potentially very windy with showers of rain, hail and sleet in strong and gusty northwest winds with gales likely along the coast.
“It looks like Sunday will start windy with ongoing strong and gusty northwest winds.
“On Sunday night winds will ease further and it will turn cold under clear skies with a widespread sharp frost and possibly ice on roads.”
The cold conditions are also expected to extend into next week.
“Current indications suggest next week will be cold and rather unsettled,” Met Éireann added.
“There will be frosty nights and occasional wintry showers.”
