Just one movie stands in way of Oscar glory for Kilkenny: bookies
Only one movie stands in the way of Kilkenny film Wolfwalkers grabbing an Oscar next month, according to the betting in the wake of the nominations reveal last week.
The latst Oscar-nomination feature from Kilkenny-based Cartoon Saloon studio has been confirmed as one of the final contenders on the shortlist for Best Animated Feature at the 93rd Academy Awards. BoyleSports have now cut Wolfwalkers into 3/1 from 10/1 to scoop the coveted accolade.
That moves directors Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart into second favourites to pick up the Oscar, although stiff competition comes by way of Disney/Pixar’s Soul, which enhanced its credentials as the potential winner by bagging the Golden Globe equivalent earlier this month.
The biggest prize of the night is expected to go the way of Nomadland, which is the hot 2/5 favourite to be named Best Picture ahead of The Trial of the Chicago 7 (11/2), Minari (9/1) and Promising Young Woman (12/1)
BoyleSports spokesperson Lawrence Lyons said: “Disney/Pixar movie Soul is a very hot favourite in the Best Animated category, but if there’s to be an upset the Irish are waiting to pick up the pieces. Wolfwalkers is a popular second favourite with us at 3/1 from 10/1 following some decent support, especially from the Kilkenny area.”
