Kilkenny health and well-being destinations wanted for European awards

By COLIN BARTLEY

VISITORS to Kilkenny are increasingly looking for breaks that offer authentic experiences through nature and local traditions.

With this in mind, Fáilte Ireland is searching for emerging destinations in Kilkenny which provide a ‘health and well-being’ tourism experience to put themselves forward for an international award which recognises innovative tourism ideas.

The European Destination of Excellence (EDEN) Awards looks for destinations offering a sustainable and well-developed tourist experience that promotes their area as well as offering a health and well-being break. The awards have been established to promote tourism in these areas.

EDEN promotes sustainable tourism development across the EU. Previous Irish winners include Scattery Island, (Cultural & Heritage), the Burren Food Trail (Tourism & Local Gastronomy), the Great Western Greenway (Tourism & the Regeneration of Physical Sites) and Loop Head (Aquatic Tourism).

The promoters of the awards are looking for destinations that offer a variety of health and well-being tourism activities, including yoga and meditation, sport and fitness, and nutritional programmes.

Closing date for entries is Friday, 27 September. For more information visit:  www.failteireland.ie.
