One of Kilkenny’s biggest primary schools unveils plans for new extension

One of Kilkenny’s largest primary schools is about to become a little bit bigger.

The Board of Management of Presentation Primary School on Parnell Street in the city has lodged plans with Kilkenny County Council for a new three-classroom extension.

If approved the single-storey extension would consist of three new classrooms to the front of the school, a link corridor and the resurfacing of the schoolyard to the rear of the present building.

Presentation Primary School is located within the St Mary’s Architectural Conservation Area and the city walls run along the rear boundary of the site.

The rear portion of the proposed site falls within an area of Archaeological Potential in Kilkenny city.

The school for both girls and boys currently caters for 443 students.

A decision on the application is expected from the local authority by the idle of August.
