Kilkenny Property Price Guide: see how much your home is worth in 2020
The average house price in Kilkenny city now stands at €220,000, according to the 2020 Sunday Times Property Guide published today.
This represent a relatively small increase of between 2%-3% as agents reported a degree of uncertainty in the local market due to Brexit and restrictions on bank lending.
However, this uncertainty is expected to clear this year as new developments across the city and county are completed.
Rents remains extremely high, particularly in the city where an average three-bedroom semi will fetch up to €1,400 a month. This is significantly higher than average mortgage repayments, a situation that is blocking many local young people from getting a foot on the property ladder.
Better value is to be had in towns such as Callan and Thomastown, which are still only 20 minutes’ drive from the city centre.
Castletown House, the magnificent restored palladian mansion and 513-acre estate near Piltown, was the most valuable property sale in the country last year. Last week KilkennyNow.ie revealed Texan billionaire Kelcy Warren, one of the world’s wealthiest men, bought Castletown for €12.6 million.
