Kilkenny records huge slump in property sales

Kilkenny recorded a massive drop in property sales in 2020.

New figures reveal there has been a 30% drop in both the number of properties changing hands and the total money spent on property purchases in the first nine months of 2020.

The latest report from the Residential Property Price Register shows €38.5 million less was spent on property purchases in Kilkenny in the first nine months of the year, while 205 less transactions took place in the county.

The report shows just €98,218,448 was spent on property transactions so far this year, down from €136,686,951 on the same period in 2019 – a drop of almost 30%.

The number of transactions also fell significantly, from 677 in 2019 to just 472 this year.

Despite this downturn in fortunes, the average price of a property purchase in Kilkenny increases from €202,200 in 2019 to €208,100 – an increase of 3% year-on-year.
