Kilkenny TD urges Department to ‘act’ over Junior Cert results delay

KILKENNY TD Kathleen Funchion has urged the Department of Education to “act” to ensure there is not a repeat of this year’s delay in releasing the Junior Certificate results.

Junior Cert students received their results a full three weeks late this year. Deputy Funchion said this is “unfair” to students and that such delays “undermine the seriousness of State examinations”.

Deputy Funchion said: “It is regrettable that results were received three weeks later than expected and the Department of Education must act to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

“It undermines the seriousness of state examinations and is unfair to all affected. Many students put a lot of time and effort into their State exams, and that must be respected.”

The Sinn Féin TD (pictured below), who is also her party’s spokesperson on children, congratulated all students who received their results last week.

She added: “I know some will be delighted, and some will be more disappointed than others, but they must take the positives from results, and not get too caught up in the negativities.”
